Cosmetic injections without medical qualifications: Tournai court will rule on 10 November

A nurse in her thirties must answer for her actions before the Tournai correctional court, according to DHnet. The defendant, sentenced in absentia in July to one year's imprisonment, has appealed the judgment.

The facts date back to October 2023: the woman is alleged to have administered hyaluronic acid injections into the lips of several patients whilst posing as a doctor, according to the prosecution. The defendant categorically disputes this version. "I always told them I was a nurse," she stated in court.

Her lawyer emphasises that she holds a nursing diploma and underwent specific training to practise this type of injection. He also points out an inconsistency with French procedure: "My client was also convicted in France, but the fraud charge was not brought. Why here, yes?" The defence further insists that no witness testimony collected mentions that she presented herself as a doctor. Patients contacted her via Instagram or were approached by her through influencers, with mention of her four years' experience.

Two patients said they were dissatisfied with the results, but did not file a complaint. One of them had even planned a new cosmetic appointment with the defendant.

For the deputy public prosecutor, even two victims constitute an unacceptable threshold. She specified that "the services only began in October 2023 solely for financial gain" and that the money earned would have been used to fund holidays and luxury restaurants. The prosecution is seeking a fine of 2,000 euros.

The defence pleads for a suspended sentence and a reduction of the fine, arguing that French authorities are already seeking 113,000 euros from their side. The judgment will be delivered on 10 November.
