An incident that occurred two years ago in Jumet, near Charleroi, nearly had tragic consequences for a two-year-old girl. The child was struck in the face by a pellet fired from an air-compressed weapon replica, narrowly escaping the total loss of vision in one eye.
The context was a dispute between several people near the home of a woman named Céline. Visitors appeared to have come for a confrontation. Faced with this intrusion, Céline grabbed an airsoft-type weapon and fired. The projectile unfortunately struck the very young child who was nearby.
The hearing took place on Monday, but the main person involved did not appear. The substitute prosecutor, Me Signor, regretted this absence. The public prosecutor's office called for a sentence of twelve months in custody. The tribunal's decision is expected on 29 June.
Me Valérie Lagneaux, who is protecting the interests of the child victim, described the scene as a real "Wild West", condemning the irresponsibility of the adult protagonists.
