National Rally targeted by fresh raids linked to European funds
The French far-right movement is once again at the centre of an affair involving alleged misappropriation of community money. At the end of June, search warrants were executed at suppliers of the party across four nations: France, Belgium, Italy and Spain.
Jordan Bardella, heading the party, denounced on social media a campaign of harassment orchestrated by the services of the Strasbourg Parliament, according to British newspaper The Telegraph.
These raids are taking place as the appeals court of the French capital prepares to rule soon on the eligibility of Marine Le Pen. The verdict is expected for 7 July in the parliamentary assistants case.
According to information from Canard enchaîné relayed by the overseas press, the prosecutor's office could soon open a judicial investigation targeting Bardella himself. The leader would be accused of having received remuneration without performing actual work within the Brussels institution in 2015, in circumstances analogous to those alleged against his predecessor.
