VRT NWS reports that police from the Mira zone have apprehended a minor who repeatedly threw stones at moving cars along the Desselgemseweg in Waregem over recent weeks. The young person was questioned and admitted to all facts. The youth prosecutor's office will now determine what action to take in the case.
At the end of April, local police had already received 9 reports from motorists with damaged vehicles. The actual number of incidents is likely higher. The incidents took place mainly on late weekend evenings, near the bridge on the Desselgemseweg.
The damage varied widely: some vehicles showed scratches and dents, while others had a side window or even the entire windscreen smashed. The persistent vandalism caused unrest in the neighbourhood.
Police closely monitored the case and managed to identify the suspect. Following questioning, the teenager fully admitted to the facts.
