A Liège court has imposed a severe sentence on a man in his forties found guilty of sexual abuse of his child, aged thirteen.

On Friday, the Liège judiciary delivered a severe verdict against a 43-year-old father. The court imposed a sentence of ten years' imprisonment, coupled with five years of post-release supervision by the court of sentence enforcement. The offences concern sexual assaults on his daughter, who was only thirteen years old when the initial acts took place.
The case dates back to 2021. The man had left Morocco to settle in Belgium. He chose to come alone with his daughter, leaving his wife in his country of origin. Over a period of two years, the adolescent was subjected to forced sexual intercourse and other forms of physical harm.
The charges did not limit themselves to rape alone. The case file also contained charges of exploitation of prostitution, production of pornographic material, assault and battery, possession of child sexual abuse material, and harassment. Furthermore, the convicted man had falsified documents to obtain medicines, including emergency contraception for his daughter.
To maintain his control, the father used threats. He led the child to believe she would be sent back to Morocco. Supported by those close to him, he had also made the young girl's mother out to be dead.
During the trial, the defendant contested the facts alleged against him. The judges did not give credence to his denials and ordered his immediate imprisonment.
