Trial postponed in case of Maxime Baugnet's death at rest stop
The Liège correctional tribunal has decided to postpone to 3 December the trial of Cédric G., a man in his forties living in Engis. He is appearing on charges of violence causing the death of Maxime Baugnet, a 32-year-old motorist residing in Rhisnes.
This decision to adjourn is explained by the absence of a medical report requested from Professor Boxho and a forensic expert present during the autopsy. This document had not yet been filed with the case at the time of the hearing, forcing the judges to grant an additional deadline.
The incident occurred on 4 September 2022 at a rest stop on the RN 90, heading towards Liège from Huy. A dispute broke out between two drivers. Cédric G. accused his counterpart of dangerous driving manoeuvres. The two vehicles came to a halt. The accused is alleged to have struck his victim three times. The young man, accompanied by his partner and a child, is said to have fallen back into his car. The alleged attacker is reported to have left without rendering assistance. The thirty-year-old did not survive.
Examination of the case is now scheduled for December, pending transmission of the forensic medical conclusions.
