A man in his forties has been convicted by Charleroi's criminal court for serious violence against his partner. The facts date back to 31 January 2022, when the individual had recently been released from a previous sentence.
On that day, he demanded 200 euros from his partner to obtain drugs. When she refused, he violently assaulted her, striking her in the head and dragging her by the hair until she fell to the ground. He then sexually abused her on two occasions. The woman managed to escape and found shelter with a neighbour, who alerted the police.
The attacker was also tried for having harassed this same woman during his previous incarceration. Another physical assault dating from October 2021 was also attributed to him.
He is currently serving a six-year sentence for comparable offences against other victims. The prosecution had requested five years in prison, citing recidivism. The defence lawyers had pleaded not guilty for the rapes and six months for the other offences.
The court ultimately imposed a sentence of fifty months in prison. Details of the case were reported by RTBF.
