In September 2025, Charleroi's courts showed clemency towards Arnaud, a man in his thirties prosecuted for violence against his former partner and former father-in-law. The tribunal granted him a suspended sentence on condition that he commit no further offences.
This opportunity was not taken. On 31 October, less than sixty days later, he returned to his ex's home to retrieve belongings from a shed adjoining the house, according to La DH (dhnet.be).
Intoxicated, he became aggressive towards the woman. The defendant admits pushing her after allegedly receiving two slaps. He acknowledges one blow, though uncertain about its exact nature. The victim alleges she was struck in the face.
The public prosecutor sought a sentence of ten months imprisonment. The magistrate questioned whether this sanction would finally make the accused understand that his aggressive behaviour must end.
The tribunal's decision is expected on 30 June.
