Skeletal remains, probably human, were unearthed by workers at the construction site of a hotel in central Charleroi. The authorities have been alerted.

On Monday morning, workers on the construction site of the future Van Der Valk establishment, in the lower part of the city at the level of rue du Grand Central, discovered several bone fragments. These appear to belong to one or more human beings.
The local authorities were alerted and a team was dispatched to the scene towards the end of the morning. The available photographs suggest the presence of long bones from the lower limbs, ribs, a part of the upper skull and other fragments of reduced size.
One hypothesis suggests that these remains could come from several different individuals. This theory has not yet been validated by specialists. The state of the bones, completely devoid of any flesh or tendon, indicates an advanced stage of decomposition spanning a period of several months to several years.
Investigators are continuing their investigations to establish the exact origin of these remains and to understand how they came to be on this construction site.
