A man in his forties has been sentenced to thirty months in prison and five years of suspended probation for assaulting his friend and stealing his car following a dispute linked to alcohol consumption.

On 21 July, Michaël spent the day with a thirty-year-old friend. The two men had consumed alcohol, and in significant quantities. On the way back, whilst they were in his friend's vehicle, a conflict broke out when Michaël insisted on taking the wheel.
The victim repeatedly refused to give up his position as driver. An argument followed, and the two men got out of the car. Blows were exchanged. Michaël then searched his friend's clothes, who was lying on the ground, to seize the vehicle's keys and flee.
The car was found abandoned in Marchienne-au-Pont, with visible damage to several parts of the bodywork.
During his trial, the defendant did not contest the facts. He claimed to have been under the influence of alcohol and narcotic substances at the time of the events. The man in his forties had already been sentenced in 2014 to 200 hours of work for robbery with violence. His criminal record also contained other convictions in 2016 and 2023.
On 15 June 2026, the court imposed a sentence of thirty months' imprisonment combined with five years of suspended probation. This sanction exceeded the prosecutor's initial request by ten months.
