A 32-year-old man has had his sentence reduced from five years in prison to four years with partial suspension for striking a 50-year-old woman on the head with a blunt object in Waremme in late 2020.

The judges of the Liège criminal court have imposed a sentence of four years imprisonment, half of which with suspension, on a 32-year-old individual residing in Waremme. This decision reduces a previous sentence of five years without suspension handed down in absentia.
The incident took place on 14 December 2020, in the Liège locality. The convicted man, named David, had organised a brutal ambush against a middle-aged woman behind an establishment on rue Saint-Éloi. The presence of a companion with the victim apparently prevented a fatal outcome.
The perpetrator inflicted two violent blows to the woman using a weapon that has not been formally established — potentially an expandable baton or a piece of metal. The first injury affected the back of the skull, whilst the second struck the left temporal region. The object had penetrated approximately two centimetres into the skull with each impact.
The consequences have radically transformed the life of the complainant. Once independent and professionally active, she now finds herself without work and under financial guardianship, with Me Laetitia Lamchachti having been appointed to manage her assets. During the hearing, the victim spoke of her social isolation and her inability to tolerate sensory stimuli. Her counsel, Me Colin Gilissen, condemned a premeditated and extremely savage assault.
The assailant's brother, Jérémy, 35 years old, received ten months in prison for complicity, without the intention to kill being established against him.
The main defendant, who failed to appear at the two previous hearings, remains in custody.
