Brussels criminal court has convicted two perpetrators of an armed settling of accounts at Clemenceau station. The main suspect faces 13 years behind bars, his accomplice 11.
Two men given heavy prison sentences for shooting at Brussels metro station
A 20-year-old Brussels resident must serve 13 years in prison for an armed attack at Clemenceau metro station in Anderlecht. His accomplice, a 21-year-old from Vilvoorde, was handed 11 years on Friday. The offences date from 5 February 2025.
On that winter morning, the main suspect fired six bursts — accounting for 23 projectiles — from an automatic weapon at rival drug dealers who were passing by on scooters. The dealers came from the notorious Peterbos district and had taken over the dealing point at the metro station. The duo wanted to drive them away.
A bullet landed in the children's room of an adjacent house. No one was physically wounded, which the court described as a stroke of luck. The accomplice also carried an assault weapon but did not open fire.
The prosecution had requested heavier sentences: 16 years for the man who fired, 14 for the other. The judge, however, went lower. Notably, the shooter had missed the entire trial after destroying his electronic ankle bracelet, but suddenly appeared to hear the verdict.
The violence at the metro station is emblematic of the weapons problem in the Brussels Region. In 2025, police recorded approximately one hundred shooting incidents there, or one every three days.
