Man in his thirties detained in Namur for assaulting former partner
A 32-year-old man was remanded in custody on Monday 8 June by an investigating judge in Namur. He is suspected of having assaulted his ex-partner, threatened her and harassed her.
The complainant had filed a complaint on two occasions within a matter of days, reporting incessant phone calls, intimidation and physical assaults. On the basis of these statements, a judicial inquiry was launched.
The man has a history with police services. His criminal record includes several convictions for violence against partners, theft and drug use. He was already subject to a suspended sentence coupled with probation and was not complying with its conditions. Law enforcement officers located and arrested him on 6 June.
The investigating judge is now accusing him of wilful assault and battery resulting in loss of work capacity, committed against a partner in a situation of vulnerability. Charges of threats, psychological harassment and telephone harassment are also being brought against him.
