A 57-year-old man was discovered with around twenty cannabis plants on his property. The prosecutor is seeking a prison sentence.

Police officers from the Houille-Semois zone discovered a cannabis cultivation at a Vresse-sur-Semois resident's property on 22 August 2024. The officers first spotted plants by looking over the property's fence. They then carried out an immediate search.
The search resulted in the discovery of fifteen plants concealed under a small plastic-made greenhouse. A further inspection of the caravan located on the premises revealed seven additional plants in the drying phase. In total, officers recovered twenty-two plants.
The property owner, aged 57, told the authorities that he maintained this cultivation for his exclusive personal use. He specified that he consumed approximately one gramme of the substance daily. According to his account, his annual harvest reached 1.2 kilograms, which was sufficient to meet his personal needs.
The matter was brought before justice in Dinant. The public prosecutor, represented by the Namur public prosecutor's office, asked the court to sentence the defendant to twelve months' imprisonment, with the possibility of a suspended sentence. The defence, led by lawyer Me Molline, emphasised the defendant's extreme isolation: no professional activity, no family ties or friendships. Since the police intervention, the man reportedly stopped consuming and has begun training as a woodcutter. His lawyers requested that he be granted a probation regime. The court's decision is expected for 31 August.
