A man aged 35 from Avelgem must complete 100 hours of community service after assaulting a woman who was directing traffic during the Feesteloop.

At a sporting event in Avelgem, a woman was assailed by a motorist who refused to wait. The man, 35 years old, has been convicted to one hundred hours of community service. Het Nieuwsblad reported on the case.
On 2 November 2024, the volunteer was stationed along the road to ensure the Feesteloop ran safely. Approximately seven hundred participants took part in the event. The man attempted to drive his vehicle through and wanted to move a barrier. Another marshal intervened.
When the victim stepped in, the situation got out of hand. She tried to calm the driver. He responded aggressively and pushed so hard that she had to grip the barrier to keep it upright. He shouted that she should remove her glasses so he could hit her.
The woman sustained a knee injury as a result, which prevented her from working for six days. Her mobile telephone was damaged in the struggle. The perpetrator told the court that he struggles to cope with overstimulation due to ADHD and autism. He remembered little.
The magistrate found him guilty of intentional assault and battery. In addition to the community service, a fine of 800 euros followed. The victim receives 170 euros in compensation.
