Joint declaration of the Americas Shield supports anti-drug operations in Bolivia

Fifteen governments of the western hemisphere issued on 1 October 2026 a joint statement in support of Bolivia for its recent operations against drug trafficking and corruption, according to sv.usembassy.gov. The signatories are the United States, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Trinidad and Tobago, all members of the mechanism known as the Americas Shield.

The statement praises the Bolivian government for having adopted "decisive actions" to confront drug trafficking networks and prosecute their facilitators. The signatory countries encouraged Bolivia to continue with investigations and criminal proceedings underway against those organisations.

The text notes that recent police operations have targeted high-ranking officials and former officials involved in drug trafficking. According to the statement, those actions transmit a clear message: illicit influence will not be tolerated "no matter how high it reaches".

The communiqué makes reference to the meeting of leaders of the Americas Shield held on 22 September, in which the 15 countries reaffirmed their commitment to defend democratically elected governments and to protect regional security against what they describe as "the corrosive influence of narco-terrorist networks".

The statement was issued from the Office of the Spokesman of the Department of State of the United States. The original text in English is available on the Department of State website.
