Operation in Urubó against PCC chief wounded in Concepción
Agents of the Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking (FELCN) carried out a raid in the Urubó area, municipality of Porongo, west of Santa Cruz, as part of investigations against Engri Júnior de Almeida Maia, alias 'Pablo Escobar de Goiás', chief of the First Capital Command (PCC). According to El Deber, the property that was raided was reportedly owned by the Brazilian drug lord and was seized following the search.
Maia was shot during a confrontation between criminal groups in Concepción last Saturday. At the time of the incident, his girlfriend was arrested. Initially it was unknown that the man was a fugitive from Brazilian justice.
Once his identity was confirmed, the Bolivian Police revealed that Maia leads a group called Friends of the State (ADE), an organisation linked to the PCC. The authorities also noted that the Brazilian provided security and contract killing services to Sebastián Marset, and that his criminal network would be even more extensive and feared than Marset's own.
Prior investigations into the raid indicated that Maia had resided in at least 20 different addresses and owned a similar number of vehicles. At the time of publication, the authorities had not released an official report on the results of the operation in Urubó.
The drug lord remains hospitalised in a clinic in the capital of Santa Cruz region due to a gunshot wound to the head sustained in Concepción. His girlfriend was sent with preventive detention of 180 days to Palmasola prison. Police and the Prosecutor's Office are continuing the search for the other armed individuals who fled after the confrontation in Concepción, who also opened fire against uniformed officers when they arrived at the location of the shooting.
