Former Deputy Points to Ex-TSJ President as Owner of Bags

Laura Rojas, a former deputy under investigation in the case known as 'Bags', identified on Thursday the former president of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), Rómer Saucedo Gómez, as the owner of the bags that are the subject of the investigation. According to El Deber, Rojas expanded her statement before the Prosecution Office for Controlled Substances under police escort and wearing a bulletproof vest, transferred from the premises where she is serving house arrest.

"The owner of the bags was Mr. Rómer Saucedo Gómez, alias the 'German', the one who fled," Rojas declared to the media as she left the prosecution office.

The former deputy explained the reasons for her earlier silence: "If I remained silent it was because I feared for my safety. I had to prioritise the safety of my daughters, my family and mine." She reiterated that the bags were not her property, but belonged to the person she identified as 'the German'.

Her lawyer, Joadel Bravo, accompanied Rojas during the statement and noted that his client decided to speak following the change of authorities in the Public Ministry. The decision came after the former heads of the Public Ministry, Róger Mariaca and Alberto Zeballos, were arrested, and after Saucedo Gómez declared himself in exile status.
