Former defence minister Novillo gives statement over alleged economic damage to the State in purchase of French radars
Former Defence Minister Edmundo Novillo appeared on Thursday before the Public Prosecutor's Office in La Paz as part of the so-called 'radar case', according to El Deber.
Novillo, who held the post during the government of Luis Arce, is facing an investigation for the alleged crimes of breach of duty and economic damage to the State.
Along with him, three other former Defence Ministers were also accused: Reymi Ferreira and Javier Zavaleta, both from the Evo Morales administration, and Fernando López Julio, from the government of Jeanine Áñez.
The case centres on the failed Sidacta project — Integrated Air Defence System and Air Traffic Control — and the purchase of 13 radars of French origin. The Government estimates the damage to the public purse at more than Bs 1,478 million.
