The La Paz prosecution opened a criminal investigation against former minister Ana Teresa Morales for alleged offences linked to the handling of confidential information at the UIF.

Former minister Morales faces criminal proceedings over disclosure of confidential information and misuse of data
The La Paz prosecution opened a criminal investigation against Ana Teresa Morales Olivera, former minister of Productive Development and former director of the Financial Investigation Unit (UIF), according to El Deber. The preliminary charges include breach of duty, misuse of privileged information and disclosure of professional confidentiality.
Departmental prosecutor Gabriel Quiroga confirmed that the complaint, filed by the Vice Ministry of Transparency, Legal Security and Human Rights, passed the admissibility filters and that the case already has a formal investigation opened. The specialised prosecutor assigned will have to designate an investigator and determine the steps necessary to clarify the facts.
"We are going to receive all cases, both from public and private entities, and carry out all investigations that need to be carried out," the prosecutor stated, emphasising that Morales enjoys the presumption of innocence and has the right to a defence. Once investigative guidelines are defined, the former official may be summoned in her capacity as a complainant to appear along with her lawyer.
Vice Minister of Transparency Yamil García argued that there would be an extortion network operating within the UIF and other state institutions. The investigation aims to identify all of its members and dismantle its operation, which is why it is not ruled out to expand the proceedings to other officials linked to the case.
The Public Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to investigating complaints submitted by both public and private entities, with transparency and respect for due process.
