Mariaca exercises right to silence in hearing before Felcn in La Paz
Prosecutor General of the State, Róger Mariaca Montenegro, refused to give a statement before the Special Force to Combat Drug Trafficking (Felcn) and the Controlled Substances Prosecutor's Office, exercising his constitutional right to silence. According to El Deber, Mariaca appeared as a detainee before prosecutor Juan Pablo Mazzone and Felcn agents in La Paz.
The investigation preliminarily charges him with the crimes of criminal organisation and money laundering. Mariaca was assisted by his lawyer Rodrigo Demetrio Salmón del Río.
Prosecutor Mazzone informed him about the facts being investigated, his procedural situation, the documentation in the investigation file and the charges attributed to him, as well as his constitutional rights. When asked whether he wished to give an informative police statement, Mariaca responded: "I exercise my constitutional right to silence".
When asked if he had anything to add, the prosecutor general requested that verification be carried out at his residence, as well as requests to Serecí to confirm his descent, marital status, and to Rejap. Mariaca listed his address as the Jardines del Norte condominium, located on Banzer Avenue and the eighth ring road, in Santa Cruz.
The Prosecutor's Office plans to present the formal charge for the crimes of criminal organisation and money laundering, with the possibility that prosecutor Mazzone will file it this Friday.
