Police operation in La Paz and El Alto leaves prosecutor's offices unattended

Luis Carlos Torrez, departmental chief prosecutor of La Paz, failed to report to his office on Potosí Street this Thursday, according to El Deber. Police authorities searched for him throughout the day without managing to locate him.

Police sealed off the La Paz prosecutor's office building from early in the morning, leaving the institution unable to serve the public. The security cordon remained in place until late into the evening. Prosecutors and staff members had held a vigil from Wednesday night in front of the building, but ultimately chose to leave in the early morning hours.

The prosecutor's office secretariat confirmed that Torrez did not report for work. Authorities did not issue statements about the reasons for the search or about the charges that could be brought against him.

In the city of El Alto, the police operation covered two simultaneous locations: the regional prosecutor's office, located opposite the Palace of Justice on 9th Street on the 6th of March Avenue, and the FELCN offices, where prosecutors Róger Mariaca, Alberto Zeballos and Martín Irusta remain detained.

Throughout much of the day, police officers closed streets adjoining both facilities, preventing circulation in the corresponding blocks. In neither of the two cities was there any demonstration or gathering in support of the arrested prosecutors.
