Five Foreign Nationals Captured Following Murder of Beni Health Department Former Director
Five foreign nationals were arrested in Trinidad, department of Beni, as part of investigations into the murder of doctor César Antonio Reyes Parada, aged 69 and former director of the Departmental Health Service (Sedes) of Beni. According to lapatria.bo, operations carried out in the Moperita and Nueva Trinidad zones resulted in the seizure of firearms, bulletproof vests and controlled substances.
Events of Monday 26 May
The attack occurred at 09:40 hours on Monday 26 May 2026 in the San Antonio neighbourhood of Trinidad. According to a report by prosecutor Windsor Ortiz Bascope of the State Attorney General's Office, three hooded men who spoke Portuguese broke into the doctor's residence. The assailants bound him and took his mobile phone along with a light blue safe measuring one and a half metres in height. Due to the considerable weight of the object, investigators suspect that a large group participated in transporting it.
In another room of the dwelling, security forces rescued a second elderly adult identified as Julio R. A. C., who was found injured, gagged and with hands and feet tied. He was taken to Germán Busch Hospital, where doctors determined he had twelve days of medical incapacity as a result of the beating he had received.
Cause of Death: Strangulation
The medical-legal autopsy established that César Antonio Reyes Parada died from cerebral anoxia caused by external cervical pressure and mechanical asphyxia by forearm strangulation: the assailants strangled him by pressing his neck with their arm, depriving him of air and oxygen to the brain.
The departmental prosecutor for Beni, Orlando Aramayo Chávez, confirmed that direct physical assaults caused the death of the professional. The case is being processed ex officio for homicide, aggravated robbery and serious and minor injuries, handled by the Crimes Against Life Prosecution Unit.
Operations and Arrests
The raids were conducted jointly by Police and the Prosecution Service in the Moperita and Nueva Trinidad zones. There they found the five suspects together with the weapons, vests and drugs. Security forces are investigating whether the detainees are members of a criminal gang linked to recent aggravated robberies recorded in the city.
The five foreign nationals remain in police custody awaiting the definition of their precautionary measures. The Prosecution continues reviewing security cameras from the San Antonio neighbourhood and taking statements to determine the degree of participation of each of those arrested in the crime.
