Prison guard Felipe Arthur Bugni, 40 years old, was arrested on Sunday evening (27) on suspicion of killing his wife, Aline Alves Bugni, 31 years old, inside a residence in Cajamar, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. According to agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br, the couple had been married for approximately ten years and had a 9-year-old daughter.
Death was confirmed at the scene by a medical team. The São Paulo State Department of Public Security (SSP-SP) reported that the incident was initially recorded as a suspicious death and that the circumstances of the facts are being investigated, "including under the hypothesis of femicide".
"The victim's husband was arrested in flagrante delicto for the crimes of psychological violence against the woman, bodily injury and threats, after being involved in assaults against the victim's family members," the SSP-SP stated.
In the operation, two firearms, magazines and mobile phones were seized. Forensic examinations at the scene were requested to help clarify the circumstances of the death.
Increase in indices of violence against women in SP
The case occurs in a scenario of increased femicides in the state. São Paulo recorded 142 cases in the first half of 2026, a growth of 10% compared with the same period in 2025, when 129 victims were recorded, according to the most recent SSP data.
In June, the number of femicides fell from 21 in 2025 to 17 in 2026. However, other indicators of domestic violence rose in the same month. Records of breach of urgent protective measures (MPU) reached 2,099 in June this year, an increase of 23.3% compared with 1,702 cases in June 2025.
Cases of intentional bodily injury against women totalled 5,604 in June 2026, an increase of 10.5% compared with the same month of the previous year, when 5,069 cases were recorded. Instances of sexual abuse of vulnerable persons increased from 719 to 848 victims between June 2025 and June 2026, an addition of 129 cases.
In the same comparison period, records of stalking rose from 2,731 to 3,037, whilst instances of psychological violence increased from 326 to 509.
