In his closing argument on Thursday, he classified the accused—contrary to the psychiatric expert—as criminally responsible and capable of controlling his behaviour.
On 1 October 2024, the 25-year-old Chinese student attacked a group of kindergarten children with a knife in Zurich Oerlikon. Three children were injured, one of them with life-threatening injuries.
The prosecution's position thus deviates from the psychiatric report. According to the prosecutor, the perpetrator acted with conscious intent. He had previously discussed the criminal liability of his plan using the ChatGPT programme and was inspired by similar attacks in his home country China. In carrying out the act, he acted with particular ruthlessness motivated by a desire for revenge and a hunger for recognition.
The prosecution seeks a conviction for multiple counts of attempted murder. In addition to the 15-year prison sentence, it is calling for outpatient treatment during the sentence as well as a ban from the country for a further 15 years.
