Drunk 75-year-old from Basel-Landschaft flees police on A2 with 1.47 per mille blood alcohol
A 75-year-old man from Basel-Landschaft drove while intoxicated on the A2 and fled on foot from police. He was convicted by penal order to pay 7,264 francs.

According to Google News CH — Crime (de), a 75-year-old man from Basel-Landschaft was convicted by penal order after he drove while heavily intoxicated on the A2 in February 2025 and subsequently fled from police.
According to the penal order, the man had 1.47 per mille blood alcohol concentration when he drove his black Fiat over the Hagnau junction onto the A2 in the direction of Bern and Lucerne. His driving style was, according to the public prosecutor's office, "significantly slowed down and not adapted to the traffic flow", which led to obstructions. Shortly before the Schweizerhalle Tunnel, he braked his vehicle on the normal lane to "almost a complete stop".
The following traffic was forced to perform "dangerous evasive manoeuvres" and "emergency braking". After the near standstill, the driver switched to the hard shoulder and continued driving without an emergency stop. In front of the Schweizerhalle gallery, he switched back to the main lane and drove with continued inappropriate speed until the Liestal exit.
There, police attempted to stop him with blue lights, alternating siren and the light matrix "Police Stop". The man initially pulled up behind the patrol car — when the police officers approached, he suddenly accelerated and positioned himself in front of the police vehicle again.
Shortly afterwards, he abandoned the car and fled on foot, ignoring repeated orders to stop. After his arrest, he attempted to exonerate himself with an unconvincing excuse: he claimed multiple times that he was merely the passenger, not the driver. However, no second person was ever present in the vehicle.
Neither police nor the public prosecutor's office believed him. The public prosecutor's office convicted him of multiple simple and serious traffic violations, driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated, and obstruction of an official act.
He received a suspended fine of 90 daily rates of 50 francs. Additionally, there was a fine of 1,200 francs, fees of 700 francs and expenses of 864.15 francs — totalling 7,264.15 francs.
