As The Local Switzerland reports, the suspected gunman who shot an Italian woman at the Aargau rave in northern Switzerland suffers from "mental health problems". This was announced by the public prosecutor's office and police at a media conference on Wednesday. The 43-year-old has not made any statement since his arrest.
Two pistols and an AK-47 assault rifle were seized from his car, the police explained at the press conference to journalists.
According to local media, shots were fired shortly before 3 a.m. near the Aargau Racetrack, where the annual techno festival attracted around 3,500 visitors from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning. "A 22-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Four men and one woman aged 24 to 27 were taken to hospital. They sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe," the cantonal police stated on X.
The Italian government confirmed that the victim was Italian. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni named her: Maria Spinelli. The Italian Foreign Ministry also announced that two other Italian nationals were slightly injured. Staff from the Italian embassy in Switzerland proceeded to the scene to closely monitor the investigation, the ministry stated.
According to police, all victims were residents of Switzerland.
