As watson.ch reports citing Google News CH — Crime (de), a 35-year-old city police officer must answer to the Zürich district court on Wednesday afternoon. The public prosecutor accuses him of misconduct in office.
According to the indictment, the officer allegedly abused a detainee in October 2023 on a Sunday morning while transferring him from the special commando post at Bahnhofquai to the detention wing of the criminal investigation building. The victim had his hands restrained behind his back and, according to the prosecution, behaved neither aggressively nor uncooperatively at any time.
In the building, the accused is said to have pushed the restrained man's head against the wall two to three times. In addition, he allegedly punched him repeatedly in the ribs and struck him with a shoe to the back of the head.
Further assaults occurred in the cell. Because the detainee did not immediately comply with an order to kneel due to a language barrier, the police officer kicked him behind the knees. As the man crouched on the ground, the officer is said to have delivered further kicks to his leg. The victim was unable to defend himself due to the restraints.
The public prosecutor is seeking a conviction for misconduct in office and a suspended fine of 180 daily rates at 110 francs each with a probationary period of two years. She additionally seeks an unconditional fine of 4,000 francs.
