Mother of TransMilenio victim demands justice after second arrest in Bogotá
A second suspect was arrested on 4 June in Cedritos for the murder of Fredy Santiago Guzmán, 19 years old. His mother warned that she will not rest until all three suspects are detained.
Second arrest over murder of student at TransMilenio station
The Technical Investigation Body (CTI) of the Public Prosecutor's Office arrested a second suspect on 4 June linked to the murder of Fredy Santiago Guzmán, a 19-year-old young man killed on 15 April 2026 during an attempted robbery at a TransMilenio station in the Engativá locality, Bogotá. According to the General Public Prosecutor's Office, the operation took place in the Cedritos sector, to the north of the city. A prosecutor from the Life Crimes Unit of the Bogotá Sectional will present the detainee before a guarantees control judge and will charge him with the offences of aggravated murder and qualified aggravated theft.
Guzmán was a Systems Engineering student and worked part-time in a cinema. He died when criminals attempted to snatch his mobile phone during the assault.
"I will not stay quiet until they arrest everyone"
Following news of the new arrest, the victim's mother, Luz Mery Cárdenas, spoke in an interview with Citytv about the progress of the investigation. Cárdenas acknowledged the achievement but stressed that a third suspect remains at large.
"Thank God it was the second arrest. I am not satisfied yet because so far this is just the beginning. There is still one more because there are three. I will not stay quiet until they arrest everyone," she stated.
The woman described with a breaking voice the impact her son's loss has had on the family: "I am grieving terribly because they killed me while I was alive. He was my most precious treasure. But he keeps me strong and it is for him that I will continue to be strong and fight to the very end. Because I do want justice."
Call to the mayor and police
Cárdenas also directed a message to the authorities, to the mayor and to the police to not abandon the case: "I want them not to leave this unpunished, leaving more families in mourning and robbing more people of their dreams, stealing away the peace that every family deserves."
The authorities continue gathering evidence to determine the degree of responsibility of those involved and advance in the judicial process.
