Arrested in flagrante for pickpocketing theft at Portal Norte

According to citytv.eltiempo.com, Bogotá's Metropolitan Police detained three people operating under the "pickpocketing" modus operandi at the Portal Norte of TransMilenio. Officers caught them after they stole a mobile telephone valued at four million pesos from a user of the mass transit system.

Security cameras at the terminal recorded how the trio took advantage of crowding to commit the robberies discreetly. Authorities also established that the three arrested individuals have multiple records for different crimes.

"During the procedure, two men and one woman were arrested, and a mobile phone valued at 4 million pesos was found in their possession. The arrested individuals were placed at the disposal of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation," declared Lieutenant Colonel Maryam Moreno, commander of the TransMilenio Mass Transport Group.

Moreno highlighted that so far in 2026, the capital's authorities have managed to dismantle 28 gangs dedicated to theft from TransMilenio passengers, particularly affecting organisations that employ the pickpocketing modus operandi.
