Justice Ministry demands investigation into murder of Uribe Turbay be expanded
The Justice Ministry asked the Prosecutor's Office to identify the intellectual authors and financiers of the murder of Miguel Uribe Turbay, which occurred in 2025.

Justice pressures Prosecutor's Office to clarify intellectual authorship of Uribe Turbay's murder
The Ministry of Justice and Law requested the National Prosecutor's Office to deepen the investigation into the assassination of senator Miguel Uribe Turbay and verify new revelations pointing to possible intellectual authors, financiers and coordinators of the murder. This was reported by infobae.com on 19 October 2026.
The request was sent that same Monday to the Prosecutor General, Luz Adriana Camargo Garzón, through a letter signed by Minister Iván Alfonso Cancino González.
The case is not closed, according to the Ministry
The document contends that the process cannot be considered fully clarified by arrests, prosecutions and convictions associated with those who would have participated in the material execution of the crime. The ministry asked for determination of who gave the order, who transmitted the instructions, how the resources were obtained and whether there was collaboration from officials or individuals with access to institutional information.
Miguel Uribe Turbay was attacked on 7 June 2025 in Bogotá and died on 11 August of that year. The Prosecutor's Office has reported advances concerning the material perpetrators and has considered the possible participation of members of Segunda Marquetalia, according to the communication sent to the prosecuting authority.
Minister Cancino acknowledged the work carried out by the Prosecutor's Office, although he argued that the investigation must advance regarding the structure that would have been behind the attack.
Widow's messages trigger the request
The request came after María Claudia Tarazona, widow of Uribe Turbay, disclosed on 15 October messages that, as she explained, she received and subsequently handed over to the authorities. In those communications, Luis Alberto Albán Urbano, known as "Marcos Calarcá", is mentioned, and there is an allusion to the alleged organisation of an attack. It is also suggested that an order to commit the crime would have originated from the Senate of the Republic.
"The objective is not for journalistic accounts to become judicial sentences," the letter states. The request aims to ensure that the authorities verify every detail, discard information that lacks support and deepen the lines that have backing in evidentiary elements.
The Ministry requested review of the authenticity, integrity, chronology, metadata, senders and recipients of the messages, chats, photographs, emails and warnings that Tarazona received. The request also proposes identifying the original sources through available legal means and contrasting their versions with other elements.
Albán Urbano and the Comunes party rejected the allegations. For that reason, the document insists that the accusations must be verified independently and without anticipating judicial conclusions.
Ongoing proceedings and constitutional jurisdiction
The Prosecutor's Office would already be advancing judicial police proceedings to establish the authenticity of some communications provided by Tarazona, including an email sent to the prosecuting authority on 3 September.
The minister asked to establish whether Albán Urbano had any relationship with the preparation of the murder or whether the messages mentioning him lack support. Should relevant elements exist, he requested evaluation of referral of the material to the Special Investigation Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice.
Albán Urbano was a representative to the Chamber between 2022 and 20 July 2026. The attack on Uribe Turbay occurred in 2025, during his period as a congressman. The letter recalls that the paragraph of Article 235 of the Constitution establishes that, after leaving office, immunity is maintained for punishable conduct related to functions performed. The document clarifies that it does not fall to the Ministry to decide on that jurisdiction and that it should be the Special Investigation Chamber that determines whether the high court should assume any proceedings.
Additional allegations regarding Venezuela and illegal mining
The communication also mentions an interview given by Tarazona to María Isabel Rueda and published by El Tiempo on 18 October, in which the senator's widow referred to Enrique Marulanda—whom she identified as the son of Manuel Marulanda Vélez, alias Tirofijo—and linked him with an alleged material order and coordination of the murder.
The Ministry requested confirmation of the identity, location, activity and possible participation of that person, as well as examination of versions regarding possible links with alias John 40, Segunda Marquetalia and a possible illegal mining operation in Vaupés or Guainía.
Reconstruction of the crime chain
Among the formal requests is reconstruction of the contacts, payments, communications and decisions that would have enabled the planning and execution of the murder. It was also requested to establish the origin of the resources used for the attack and analyse versions regarding possible transfers or support from Venezuela, through the judicial cooperation mechanisms that apply.
The Ministry also requested that statements from persons prosecuted or convicted who can provide information about superiors, instigators or financiers be incorporated. This is added to the request to reinforce protection of witnesses, sources and investigators, preserve evidentiary elements that may be lost with the passage of time, and contrast prior alerts, reported threats, protection requests and institutional responses before the attack.
The letter also proposes reviewing whether there was participation, collaboration, facilitation or criminally relevant omission by public officials or individuals with access to institutional information during the preparation of the crime.
