On Friday morning, in the Consejo Popular La Reforma district of the municipality of Caibarién, Captain Leonel Mesa Rodríguez, an officer of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), was found dead. The man, aged 62, held the post of sector chief.
The uniformed officer's body bore multiple cutting injuries—six in total—along with a gunshot wound to the skull. According to initial inquiries, the officer was driving between Remedio and Caibarién on his official motorcycle, wearing his uniform. The motorcycle itself was found near the body.
With a career spanning nearly 24 years in the institution, Mesa Rodríguez had remained active in fighting crime and protecting internal order. Now, the organs of the Ministry of the Interior in Villa Clara are investigating the case to determine precisely what occurred.
In a press statement, the Minint condemned the crime and warned that revolutionary law would respond firmly to acts of this nature. The organisation sent its condolences to the relatives and colleagues of the fallen officer.
