Cuba rejects US accusations of Medicare fraud without evidence

Cuba's Ministry of Foreign Relations issued an official statement rejecting recent statements by officials of the US Government that associate, without evidence, Cuban authorities with fraud in the Medicare health programme in south Florida, according to tribuna.cu.
The Foreign Ministry characterised these assertions as slander driven by anti-Cuban sectors in US territory, and reiterated that Cuba maintains a firm position of rejection against transnational crimes.
The statement noted that Washington is aware that Havana has coordinated joint actions on terrorism, judicial assistance, commercial security, illicit drug trafficking, migrant trafficking, immigration fraud, cybercrime, money laundering and financial crimes. Nevertheless, the text warned that this cooperation has not always found reciprocity from US authorities.
The Foreign Ministry clarified that Cuba has prosecuted through the courts individuals residing in its territory linked to fraud against Medicare. Likewise, through bilateral mechanisms, it has shared and requested information from the United States about citizens implicated in financial crimes.
The document also detailed that Cuba has requested assistance for the repatriation of Cuban citizens residing in that country who evaded national legislation and face charges for financial infractions.
The statement concluded that US officials who sustain these accusations "knowingly distort the truth". The Cuban Government reiterated its willingness to jointly combat transnational crimes that originate in the United States, through the timely exchange of information.
