Havana court sentences man to 25 years for murder of 21-year-old

According to cubadebate.cu, the Fourth Criminal Chamber of the Provincial Popular Court of Havana held the oral trial on 23 September 2025 in case number 133 of 2025, in which Gabriel Peña Oviedo was found guilty of the murder of Yordan Revé Abrahante, aged 21.
The court issued a sentence of 25 years of imprisonment against the defendant, in a judgment based on Peña Oviedo's personal characteristics, his social conduct, the gravity of the offence, and the impact caused both to the community and to the victim's family members.
The facts of the case
According to the statement issued by the court itself, on the night of the crime the defendant had consumed a significant quantity of alcohol when he became involved in an altercation of a family nature in which the victim was also present. In the midst of the confrontation, Peña Oviedo, knife in hand and without a word, stabbed Revé Abrahante, causing his immediate death and leaving him lying in a public place.
During the oral trial, a body of evidence was presented that, according to the court, demonstrated the defendant's responsibility for the facts.
Procedural safeguards and right of appeal
The court noted that during the processing of the case and the oral trial proceedings, procedural safeguards and respect for due process as enshrined in the Criminal Procedure Act and the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba were complied with.
