Postal package with painting concealed 11 packages of cannabis in Larnaca

According to Philenews, the Organised Crime Confrontation Division (OCCE) / Anti-Narcotics Unit (UACN) of the Larnaca Branch, in cooperation with the Customs Department, seized 6 kilograms and 110 grammes of dried cannabis plant matter and arrested two men, aged 39 and 67.

The postal package was discovered on the morning of 16 October 2026 at Larnaca Airport during an inspection by the Customs Department. It was subsequently handed over to the OCCE/UACN as part of coordinated operations against drug importation and trafficking.

Inside the package, which declared its contents as a painting, eleven packages of cannabis were found carefully concealed, with a total gross weight of 6 kilograms and 110 grammes.

At around 3:30 in the afternoon of the same day, members of the OCCE carried out an operation and arrested the 39-year-old at the moment he presented himself to collect the package. With him was a 67-year-old man, who was also subjected to a check by police officers.

The 67-year-old was arrested red-handed, as a brown solid substance weighing approximately 2 grammes was found in his possession. Subsequently, following examinations, evidence emerged linking him to the quantity of cannabis that had been received by the 39-year-old.

Both were remanded in custody for the purposes of investigating a case of supply, importation and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute to third parties. The case is being investigated by the OCCE – UACN Branch Larnaca.
