Police arrested 12 people for drug possession, affray and carrying a knife. A total of 753 drivers and passengers in 559 vehicles were checked across Cyprus.

Island-wide police operations: 12 arrests and hundreds of traffic citations

Twelve people were arrested during the course of last night in the framework of organised police operations in urban areas across Cyprus, according to Philenews. The offences for which charges were brought include drug possession, affray and carrying a knife.

In the course of the checks, 559 vehicles were stopped and a total of 753 drivers and passengers were examined. In parallel, 56 premises inspections were carried out, from which 16 citations resulted.

In traffic checks, 361 citations for violations were recorded, of which 149 concerned excessive speed. Of the 147 alcohol checks carried out, 14 returned a positive result, whilst from nine preliminary drug checks, five drivers tested positive. A total of 12 vehicles were also impounded.

Police announced that crime prevention and suppression operations continue daily with an enhanced presence and targeted checks.
