Fifteen people were arrested by police during overnight operations across the Republic as part of targeted patrols aimed at preventing crime and maintaining public order.
According to a police statement published in the Cyprus Mail, officers conducted organised patrols in central urban areas of the island to deter serious criminal activity and enhance citizen safety.
The arrests involved various offences, including theft, illegal residence in Cyprus, public intoxication, causing annoyance, carrying a knife, illegal possession of drugs, possession of an offensive weapon and various traffic offences.
During the operations, officers stopped 571 vehicles and checked 769 residents. They also conducted inspections at 47 premises, resulting in five reports being filed for various violations.
In the area of traffic, 387 fines were imposed for road code violations, whilst 41 investigations were opened into suspected traffic offences. Of the fines, 129 concerned excessive speed. Thirteen vehicles were immobilised.
Officers conducted 113 alcohol tests, with 15 drivers being reported for driving under the influence of alcohol. Two preliminary drug tests were also carried out, both with positive results.
The police announced that nationwide operations will continue daily with increased presence, targeted checks and rapid operational responses.
