Members of Famagusta CID arrested an 18-year-old in the Famagusta district as part of an investigation into the possession and circulation of counterfeit banknotes, according to Politis. A total of 23 €50 notes were found, all bearing the same serial number.

The investigation began following the evaluation of information, during which CID members attended a premises and received two €50 notes from an employee that bore the same serial number. Following examinations that ensued, evidence emerged against the 18-year-old, who was located and identified by police officers.

During a body search of the 18-year-old, two further €50 notes with the same serial number were found in his possession. The notes were seized as evidence and the young man was arrested in flagrante delicto.

Subsequently, a search was conducted of the hotel room where the 18-year-old was residing. There, a further 19 €50 notes were located and seized, which also bore the same serial number as the previous ones.

The 18-year-old is expected to be presented before Famagusta District Court for the purposes of issuing a detention order. Famagusta CID continues its investigations.
