On Saturday night, police forces across Cyprus made 19 arrests as part of preventative operations in critical urban areas. The aim of the checks was to prevent serious offences and maintain public order.

Those arrested are accused of various criminal offences, including illegal possession of substances, theft, assault, drunk and disorderly conduct, causing disturbance in public spaces, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

During the night, authorities stopped 606 vehicles for inspection and examined 858 passengers. At the same time, 46 inspections were carried out at shops and premises to tackle law-breaking, resulting in seven charges.

With regard to traffic control checks, 293 fines were issued for violations of the Road Traffic Code, whilst 24 cases were referred for further investigation. Additionally, 17 vehicles were seized.

Of the traffic violations, 112 concerned excessive speed and 24 concerned driving under the influence of alcohol. Separately, one case of driving under the influence of psychotropic substances emerged following a preliminary test. Officers conducted 352 breathalyser tests and 10 drug tests on drivers.

Daily policing operations continue with increased presence of enforcement authorities and specialised checks.
