Officers from the Famagusta Regional Police Command arrested a 25-year-old young woman in the Ayia Napa area in the early hours of Tuesday. The suspect is accused of unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute.
According to Politis, the authorities stopped the woman shortly after midnight. During a search conducted on her, a metal cylinder, 64 unused capsules containing nitrous oxide — known as "laughing gas" — and 68 balloons were found. Additionally, 100 euros in cash were seized.
At the same time, a check into the legality of her stay in the country revealed that the 25-year-old was unlawfully present on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
The arrested woman was taken into custody and is expected to appear before the Famagusta District Court for the case to be registered. The Ayia Napa Police Station is coordinating the investigation.
