34-year-old driver arrested in Paphos following chase – three times over alcohol limit

A 34-year-old man was taken into custody in Paphos yesterday evening following a police patrol that escalated into a pursuit.

Everything began around midnight, when a patrol unit crew was operating in an area of the district and requested a driver to stop for a check. The man ignored the signal, accelerated and attempted to flee, resulting in a chase being initiated.

During the pursuit, the driver moved dangerously on the roads. At one point he lost control of the vehicle and his car ended up in the yard of a house, where it came to a stop.

Police proceeded with the arrest of the 34-year-old for offences caught in the act. Specifically, he was charged with dangerous driving, failure to obey a police signal, as well as driving without a licence and without insurance.

In a subsequent alcohol test, the device showed 76 μg%, a quantity that significantly exceeded the legal maximum limit of 22 μg%.

The Paphos Traffic Police are investigating the case.
