A man aged 63 was arrested in Zygi following the discovery of quantities of cannabis in a vehicle and an agricultural plot.

A man aged 63 was arrested yesterday in the Zygi area and remanded in custody for seven days on a matter relating to substances controlled by law.
According to information released by the police, officers from the Drug Enforcement Service stopped a vehicle being driven by the man in question on the road between Zygi and Marí. During a search of the car, approximately 500 grammes of cannabis was found, which led to his arrest.
The authorities subsequently searched an agricultural plot and premises belonging to the same man in the wider area. There they discovered three plastic packages hidden inside a metal dog cage, which contained a total of approximately 1.5 kilogrammes of cannabis.
With the consent of the arrested man, police officers conducted a search of his residence. From there they took as evidence 339 cartridges of hunting ammunition, two mobile telephones and cash totalling 743 euros. The money is being investigated as possible proceeds from unlawful activities.
The 63-year-old was brought before the Larnaca District Court today, where a remand order for seven days in custody was issued against him. The Drug Enforcement Service's investigations are continuing.
