AKEL calls for resignations at Prosecutor's Office following corruption findings

AKEL is calling for the immediate resignation of the head of the Prosecutor's Office and his deputy, following the publication of the conclusions of the Anti-Corruption Authority regarding the case named "Mafia State".

In a statement, the party argues that the withdrawal of the two legal officials from the investigation is not sufficient. It points out that, according to the Constitution, every criminal investigation is concluded with a decision by the General Prosecutor. Consequently, there cannot be an objective process when at the head of the Prosecutor's Office are individuals appointed by former president Nicos Anastasiades, who was head of the government accused of collusion.

AKEL states that the report confirmed what society already knew about DISY's governance. It speaks of collusion, degradation of institutions, abuse of power and scandals that led to the depletion of billions at the expense of citizens.

The party also addresses DISY president Nicos Christodoulides, asking whether he continues to believe that the previous government was not corrupted.

Finally, AKEL states that it will exert pressure to ensure that the former president and his associates do not escape justice, and calls for no one to be allowed to obstruct prosecution.
