Driving licence suspended for 25-year-old motorcyclist in Famagusta – drink-driving, drugs and injury to police officer
A 25-year-old motorcycle driver was arrested in Famagusta district for serious traffic offences, drug possession and assault on a police officer.

According to cypruspolicenews.com, police are investigating a case of negligent and reckless conduct, drug possession and serious traffic offences against a 25-year-old motorcycle driver who was arrested in flagrante delicto yesterday afternoon in Famagusta district.
Shortly after 11:30, members of the Special Motorcycle Unit (EOMO) of the Traffic Department Headquarters were conducting a traffic check at the Paralimni–Deryneia roundabout when they spotted the 25-year-old riding without a helmet. As soon as the police officers called him to stop, he accelerated and changed direction.
During the attempt to immobilise him, a police officer was struck by the motorcycle and sustained an injury to his hand, under circumstances that continue to be investigated. The motorcycle then collided with a parked car and came to a stop at the location.
During the subsequent search, a grinder with traces of plant material believed to be cannabis was found in the storage compartment under the seat. A breathalyser test showed 21 microgrammes per cent, against a maximum permitted limit of 9 microgrammes per cent, while the 25-year-old also tested positive in a preliminary check for driving under the influence of drugs.
The perpetrator and the injured police officer were taken to Famagusta General Hospital; both were discharged following medical examination. Following the completion of the questioning, the 25-year-old was released to be summoned to appear before a court at a later stage. In parallel, he was served with a letter suspending his driving licence.
Paralimni Police Station and the YKAN (Famagusta District Unit) are continuing investigations.
