€127,000 telephone fraud targeting 83-year-old woman
An 83-year-old woman fell victim to a telephone fraud scheme, resulting in the loss of over 127,000 euros from her account. The case is being investigated by the Property Crime Detection Department of the Nicosia Police Directorate.
The complainant reported that yesterday she received a phone call from a number belonging to a European country. The unknown man who called her presented himself as an employee of an electronic financial transaction platform. Using false pretences, he persuaded her to give him access to her account details. Subsequently, a large sum of money disappeared from her account.
The authorities are calling on citizens to remain vigilant. Personal details and bank account passwords should not be shared with anyone. It is recommended that the authenticity of each call or message be verified by contacting official bodies through known and secure channels.
