Threatening emails against Dimitriou: Police turn to Bulgaria
Cypriot authorities are investigating three threatening emails sent against parliament speaker Annita Dimitriou in cooperation with Bulgaria.
Investigations in Bulgaria over threats against Annita Dimitriou
Three threatening emails received by DISY concerning the speaker of parliament and head of the parliamentary group, Annita Dimitriou, have put Cypriot authorities on alert. According to Politis, the Cypriot Police have forwarded the messages to Bulgarian authorities with the aim of identifying the sender.
Competent sources told Politis that through specialised tools it is possible to recover information about the IP address used to send the messages. At the same time, there is the possibility of tracing and recording the route followed by each email until it was received at the party's offices.
From initial information obtained, it emerges that the three messages are authentic and that they were sent from Bulgaria.
Other aspects of the case are under examination. The Police are examining the wording and syntactical errors contained in the messages in order to determine whether these are texts that were translated from another language into Greek — either as a result of poor translation, or as a deliberate choice by the sender to conceal their identity.
