A woman in Limassol is fighting for her life after being seriously wounded by gunfire from her husband, who serves in the Cyprus Police. Following the incident, the police officer himself took his own life.

The incident occurred yesterday and caused deep grief within the Force. In an official statement, the Cyprus Police stated that the thoughts of all are with the woman who is struggling to survive, as well as with her family who are experiencing extremely difficult times.

The case is being thoroughly investigated by the relevant authorities. The Police clarified that any public statement about the actual events or the circumstances under which the crime was committed would be premature and could potentially affect the investigations. For this reason, there will be no further comment until the completion of investigative procedures.

At the same time, the Force responded to public reports concerning the mental health of its members. It clarified that it does not leave such matters to chance, but has an established Human Resources Support Unit, staffed with registered psychologists. This unit provides psychological support, implements prevention and education programmes, and the prescribed protection procedures are activated when the necessary conditions are met.

The Cyprus Police committed itself to continuing to act with transparency, accountability and respect in the investigation of the case, always with the aim of protecting society and supporting its people.
