Anti-Corruption Authority examines complaint over black van – Attorney General approval sought
The Independent Anti-Corruption Authority is drawing up plans to appoint auditors and investigators with the aim of investigating a complaint filed by the president of ALMA, Odysseas Michailidis. The complaint concerns the case of the dark-coloured surveillance vehicle and the allegation of a conflict of interest by Deputy Attorney General Savvas Angelidis.
At the centre of the proceedings is the decision by Mr Angelidis, together with Attorney General Giorgos Savvidis, to stop the prosecution of Israeli Tal Dilyan, a former Mossad member, who possessed the specific vehicle. The van was brought to the island under a declaration that it contained weather forecasting equipment, but in reality it was equipped with mechanisms for recording and intercepting conversations.
For the Authority to proceed with the appointment of investigators, the approval of the Republic's highest legal official is required, since they are state employees.
