Police operations across Cyprus: Eight arrests and hundreds of traffic violations
On Friday night, police forces conducted targeted operations in critical points across urban areas throughout the Republic. The aim was to prevent serious offences, maintain order and reinforce public sense of security.
A total of eight people were taken into custody for various criminal offences. These included cases of employee theft, illegal residence in the country, carrying a blade, unlawful possession of narcotic substances, and assault against a police officer.
On the roads, 629 drivers and 131 passengers were checked. In parallel, 44 inspections were carried out at premises to counter unlawful behaviour, from which six new cases emerged.
Traffic checks recorded 295 violations. Eighty-three involved excessive speed. From 95 alcohol tests, three drivers were found to be driving with alcohol levels above the legal limit. Four vehicles were removed from circulation, whilst six cases of serious traffic violations were placed under investigation.
The competent authorities confirmed that targeted operations would continue on a daily basis, with increased presence on roads and immediate response to incidents.
