Trainee police officer arrested for anabolic substances in Nicosia
A 30-year-old trainee of the Cypriot police was arrested on Thursday as part of an investigation into the illegal possession of anabolic substances, according to reports by the Cyprus Mail.
A search of his residence in Nicosia, carried out following a court order, led to the discovery of 69 vials of suspected anabolic substance.
Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis ordered the trainee to be placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation.
According to the police, the arrest is part of a broader investigation and was carried out in order to "facilitate the investigation in an ongoing case of illegal possession of anabolic substances".
Under Cypriot law, the use of anabolic steroids without a valid medical prescription is illegal, whilst unauthorised possession, distribution or sale is punishable by fine or imprisonment.
